How Much Does a Virtual Assistant Cost in Hong Kong? (And How to Know If It Pays Off)
"How much does it cost?" is one of the first questions founders ask me. It's a fair question, and I'd rather answer it openly than make you guess.
The honest answer is that virtual assistant costs vary a lot. But there are a few things that shape the price, and a simple way to work out whether support will actually pay for itself.
What affects the cost of a virtual assistant
1. Experience and skill level. Someone who only handles basic data entry will cost less than someone who can manage your inbox, coordinate projects, set up systems and communicate with your clients on your behalf.
2. The type of work. Routine tasks like scheduling and email triage sit at one end. Client communication, project coordination and process improvement sit further along. The more judgement a task needs, the more experience you'll want.
3. How much support you need. A few hours a month to catch up on admin is very different from a dedicated partner working alongside you every week.
4. How you pay. Some assistants charge by the hour. Others, like me, work on monthly plans, so you know exactly what you're spending and can plan around it.
5. Location and availability. If you need someone who knows Hong Kong, can attend things in person, or works across Asian, US and European hours, that's worth factoring in.
What I charge
At M VA Solutions, monthly plans start from HK$4,000. Every business is different, so I'll recommend the right plan once we've talked through what's on your plate. On-site support in Hong Kong is available too.
I'd always rather you start small and build from there than commit to more than you need.
The question that matters more: does it pay off?
Price only tells half the story. The real question is what that support gives back to you. Here's a simple formula I share with founders:
(Hours saved each month × what your hour is worth) − the cost of support = your return
Let's try an example. These numbers are just for illustration, so swap in your own:
You value your time at HK$800 an hour. That's what you could earn, or the value of the work only you can do.
Handing off admin saves you 8 hours a week, so around 32 hours a month.
That's HK$25,600 worth of your time back each month.
Even after the cost of support, that's a meaningful return. And it doesn't count the things that are harder to put a number on: the follow-up that became a new client, the mistake that didn't happen, or the evening you got to spend with your family.
The hidden cost of doing it all yourself
When founders tell me they can't afford a virtual assistant, I gently ask: what is it costing you not to have one?
Leads that go cold because nobody followed up
Hours of your week spent on tasks that don't grow the business
Late nights, skipped meals, and that constant feeling of being behind
Decisions made when you're tired, rushed or distracted
These costs don't show up on an invoice, but they're very real.
How to get started without overspending
Start with one clear area, such as inbox and calendar.
Track the time you get back for the first month.
Review together and decide whether to grow, stay the same, or adjust.
If you'd like a clear recommendation for your business, let's talk. I'll listen first, then suggest a plan that fits, with no pressure either way. You can also learn more about me before we chat.
